The Women’s Organizing Network (WON) was an organization that worked from 2015 - 2023 to support women and non-binary community organizers, particularly BIPOC, to advance their leadership and to support social justice organizations to integrate a stronger intersectional gender analysis.

The Women’s Organizing Network envisioned a field of social justice community organizing in NYC that wins more campaigns and builds more power for women most impacted by economic injustice. To do this, WON believed organizations must lift up women’s leadership and equality more deeply and explicitly, and women and their interests must stand at the center of issue campaigns.

The organization's flagship program was a leadership cohort - WON Leadership Circles - for organizers to learn about unconscious bias, get support to advance their own leadership and introduce a stronger intersectional gender analysis into their organizing.

Testimonials

“I felt that the WON Leadership Circle was a sacred space where we could reflect and speak without having to prove ourselves, and we could bring our full thinking to the space and learn from each other.”

“Through my experience with WON, I gained the confidence and figured out a smart strategy to speak up about issues between my supervisor and me… By reflecting on my situation with other women in WON, I realized that it was up to me to push for change if I wanted to see it, and that my own leadership depended on it.”

“I realized that I need to create my own space and leadership opportunities to grow and learn more in my organization. You can’t get something you don’t ask for!”
